Tom Macon Info Blog is dedicated to the life and times of the late Tom Macon. His descendants helped fund my arrival to this great United States of America. If it were not for their generosity and constant encouragement, I would have never attended college in the Old Dominion, taken roots in Virginia, and developed such a deep respect for American history and the Civil War era.For this, I will always be indebted to the Macon family, especially Tom Macon's great, great grand niece Chelsea.

Videos 1 & 2 of 9 Total

As many of you already know, this blog is dedicated to the life and times of the late Tom Macon.

His descendants helped fund my arrival to this great United States of America. If it were not for their generosity and constant encouragement, I would have never attended college in the Old Dominion, taken roots in Virginia, and developed such a deep respect for American history and the Civil War era.

For this, I will always be indebted to the Macon family, especially Tom Macon's great, great grand niece Chelsea.

Tom Macon's personal narrative entitled, "Life's Gleanings" is a wonderful walk through history as he lived and understood it. It is an amazing snapshot of Civil War era social life and customs. The book was published in 1913 by W.H. Adams, a publisher out of Richmond, Virginia.

I am posting an audio book version of "Life's Gleanings" that I made so that Charles Mumford and others with visual impairments can enjoy Tom Macon's book.

The source of the text I used to create the audio books can be found at: http://docsouth.unc.edu/fpn/macon/macon.html  I don't claim any copyright and you can use it freely. Just please don't try to sell it because it wouldn't be fair. And I apologize in advance for not being able to sync the pictures correctly with the audio. For those who contributed the pictures, thanks again.

Also, I had to divide the finished work into 9 smaller files to work on Blogger.

I am trying to put together a reunion in 2014 for the descendants of Tom Macon. Please write me at: ramzimasih@gmail.com for details and ideas for gathering in Richmond Virginia at the historic Jefferson Hotel. Since 1895, The Jefferson Hotel has been recognized as one of the grandest hotels in America. The accommodations are world-class and I am sure that it is a fitting place for a Macon reunion.

I found this video on YouTube that gives you a better idea about the Jefferson Hotel. Because we haven't entered into a contract for the reunion location, I am still open to suggestions. I really do want to have it in Virginia because Tom Macon lived here.
